Booze News For Rosacea February 24 2013

ro·sa·ce·a

/rōˈzāSH(ə)ə/

Noun
A chronic, inflammatory skin condition in which facial blood vessels enlarge, most commonly on the face. Rosacea causes facial redness and may show in the form of swollen red pustules or bumps. Rosacea is often mistaken for an allergy and if not properly treated, may worsen over time.
If you suffer from rosacea, you are not alone.
Approximately 14 million Americans are estimated to suffer with it. As it is frequently misdiagnosed the cases are likely a lot higher. A Gallup survey revealed that 78% of Americans do not know anything about rosacea, its symptoms or what to do about it.

If you like to get your cocktail on, you are not alone.
You may read a lot about the health benefits of drinking red wine in moderation { whatever that is }, but for rosacea sufferers there are other choices that also have the benefits of anti-oxidants and are much less likely to cause flare-ups. You should try adapting your palette to some white wines {oh, hush}. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc have the most anti-oxidants and also contain anti-inflammatories. Italian researchers suggest drinking 2 glasses per day to reap the health benefits, more than that may cancel out the benefits. The researchers also found that white wine may protect against heart attacks. More reasons to LOVE Italians!
By the way, Sake is also a good choice if your looking to "cocktail" flare-up free!

There are a few great treatment options for rosacea, the most successful being IPL {Intense Pulsed Light}. Please contact me to talk about treatment and to get on the road to clear, calm skin.
